Lots of people arrive at NEO having had a rough time with school. Maybe learning stopped feeling safe. Maybe you've been out of the classroom for a while. That's okay — you're not behind, and you're not broken. Before we teach you anything, our job is to make learning feel safe again. Everything else is built on top of that.
Learning first, exams second
Here's something we believe strongly: an exam is a test of learning — it isn't the learning itself. Some schools teach the test and call it a curriculum. We don't.
That means the maths you learn here belongs to you, not to an exam board. The qualification fits the learner — not the other way around.
How lessons are designed
Every lesson is shaped by our Six Cornerstones — Connection, Movement, Creativity, Reflection, Rest and Nutrition. In maths that looks like: exploring how ideas relate to each other and to your life (Connection), watching ideas move and change rather than sit still on a page (Movement), finding your own route to an answer (Creativity), pausing to ask "does this make sense?" (Reflection), practising without pressure (Rest), and maths that connects to real, everyday life (Nutrition).
Wellbeing and learning aren't two separate things here. They're the same activity.
What a lesson feels like
Our lessons are interactive webpages, not worksheets. You can explore, experiment, get things wrong freely, and try again — nothing is recorded against you. Each lesson starts with a question worth wondering about, lets you play with the idea, and ends by asking what you can now see that was hidden before.
How we know it's working
Not by test scores alone. We look at whether you're showing up, whether you can explain an idea in your own words, whether maths is starting to feel like something you can do — and we ask you. Your view of your own learning counts as real evidence here.
